CoraB x Baubles TTPD

$550.00

Inspired by Taylor Swift’s most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, which was written partially while touring following her long term breakup and consequent situationship. The album explores her mourning a serious relationship and the agony of a new relationship while dealing with the stress as she was reaching never before seen fame from her tour. The album was released with a surprise Anthology including an entire second full-length album upon release. The album is very introspective and shows off her talents as a poet and songwriter. Ann Powers wrote in NPR “Swift is trying to work out how emotional violence occurs.”

The color theme for the album is all based on a black and white style. From the photography to the costuming, the branding both evokes a poet putting pen to paper as well as the emotions that fill the breakdown of a long term relationship. The heartbroken fruitlessly often try to break down the issues into black and white as seen in songs such as “How Did it End.” Swift herself is the tortured poet and the pain of moving forward from the complex issues of falling out of love and the light and dark that comes with it.
The costuming for the TTPD portion of the tour were unveiled after her tour hiatus during her Paris shows. She evokes the styling of a 19th century poet with a corseted bodice white dress designed by Vivianne Westwood covered in the words “I love you, it's ruining my life” in a script style from the song “Fortnight ft. Post Malone.” The artist took inspiration from this costuming for the background of this piece but chose to continue the lyrics of the rest of the album to give the impression of the scrawlings of a poet working through their emotions. The styling of the painting and costuming is meant to resonate as literary academia. The image from the photo session is from a black and white glamor shot of Taylor but the artist chose to colorize the portrait and bring it to life to fit with the collection.
