CoraB x Baubles Speak Now

$650.00

This portrait is inspired by the imagery of the photoshoot taken for the re-record of Speak Now, Taylor’s third studio album. This was the first album to consist of songs written solely by Swift and is seen as a departure of her adolescence and progression of her work into a more adult and pop centric sphere. Many see the title Speak Now as meant to not only reflect the song track title but as an ironic twist on the theme of many of the songs as unspoken confessions. “Speak Now” is obviously the most direct as it tells a fictional story of the speaker speaking up during a wedding. Other tracks such as “Back to December” and “Last Kiss” chronicle the reflection and regrets of past relationships that she feels she cannot share. Famously, during the writing of this album Swift was in her first public adult relationship with the singer-songwriter John Meyer that inspired “Dear John” and a track she published over 10 years later “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve.” These tracks both mark her exit out of youthful relationships and the complex issues of adult relationships, especially how she feels that Meyer took advantage of her innocence in the relationship.

The photoshoot for the re-record was extremely similar to the original shoot from 2010. The covershot shows Swift in motion in a tulle dress with her signature 2010’s curls. The same designer, Reem Acra, was employed to create a new dress to update the cover. The marked difference is the background transitioning from white to black with the re-record. For the portrait, the artist transitioned the dress into a iridescent white to incorporate the paint colors of the full collection to create cohesion in the overall display. The prominent purple branding of Speak Now was used for the background for clear recognition of the album.
